The North Georgia Barbershop Singers were first known as the Forsyth County Barbershop Singers when founded in 2007 when first founded by Jack Martin of Cumming, GA with the assistance of Rich Pilch of Dawsonville, GA. Jack and Rich sang together many times when they lived in the St. Louis area and renewed their friendship when they found themselves now living only 15 miles apart. Eventually, they decided to attempt forming a Barbershop group in the Cumming area. About ten men from Forsyth, Hall, Dawson, North Fulton, and Lumpkin Counties began singing together. The group struggled along for several months, putting on a successful Valentine Singing program in February of 2008. With the effort of the directors and members doing ‘sing-outs’, telling others about their hobby, and the assistance of local newspaper articles, the group began to grow. By the fall of 2008, the group had grown to twenty men with new visitors showing up every week.
The chorus elected officers for the 2009 year and the name was officially changed to the NORTH GEORGIA BARBERSHOP SINGERS. The group joined the Barbershop Harmony Society and the Dixie District later that year under the society name of Lake Lanier Georgia Chapter. Currently there are three quartets officially registered with the Barbershop Harmony Society: False Alarm, Lads Of Lanier, and Sweet Tea. Other quartets are in the development and organizational process and will soon be fully qualified and registered.
Today the chorus is on its way to having 40 men on stage who perform for a variety of occasions and groups. They have completed another very successful ‘Singing Valentine’ program, performed in Dixie District competitions, and are now busy preparing for another show and learning new music.
Visitors, guests and prospective new singers are always welcome at Tuesday night meetings.
